Something experimental

Cool, of course :D

Did you render it Ultrafractal, and used picogen just for the sky, or how did you do the coloured landscape?

Sorry.
I rendered a fractal image in Ultrafractal, the image is here: [link]

That image was used in Picogen as a heightmap. It worked right from a color bmp, so it seems like picogen just extracts the greyscale value it needs for heightmap.
So, basically the entire image here was rendered in picogen, only using a fractal as heightmap.

Used some minor pp on the final render, only to adjust color and contrast.

Also, I can't remember having implemented colorful terrain in picogen 0.3, so either the colours stem from the high frequency of your heightmap, or from bugs ... hmmm :sherlock:

The render came out in various shades of light orange, which was set as 'material' color. So no bugs there.

But there was also lines and texture, as you can still see in the image.
This was probably the result of using a 4000x4000 pixel heightmap, which has plenty of little lines in it.

Then using minor pp it got these colors instead of only shades of orange.

4000 is not small indeed. Picogen uses your heightmap as a bump-map also, so you get shades even on flat polygons, that might be the reason (for many scenarios, this increases quality; fake geometry is cheaper than real geometry and often a good enough compromise).

I should build in the possibility of using flat shading.

I'll hapilly test the new functionality in 0.4

Was it with the SimplexGUI (the one with the tree view on the left), and did you code it like "([Heightmap ...] x y)"?

About color heightmaps: Indeed picogen supports loading colorful images, technically this allows for more contrast if you have the right tools. A typical greyscale bitmap has a maximum contrast of 1/255. With picogen, it is possible, afaik (lol, I am the developer, I *should* know), to have 1/(255*255*255).

(sorry for being that pedantic, but user feedback is always good :) )

No problem.
Giving user feedback is also a way of saying thank you for the program.

Yes and yes.

Thank you very much for your feedback so far :)

Heightmap:
I see, cool. 0.4 already features Heightmaps without having to code, btw :)
